Meghan Markle and Prince Harry ‘s new six-episode Netflix series has sparked a backlash, with irate subscribers threatening to cancel the service.Last week the streaming service released a trailer showcasing the life and relationship of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, but many social media users are unimpressed. The docuseries covers the highs and lows of their lives in the spotlight, including their wedding reception in 2018.But it’s not gone down well with everyone, with one user writing: “Harry and Meghan whining on a @netflix show is enough for me to want to cancel that service.”Another posted on Twitter : “I’m going to cancel my Netflix subscription this is disgusting. I seriously want to ask Harry where is your loyalty to your brother.”
And a further person tweeted: “This would be a good reason to cancel my Netflix if they are showing Harry & Meghan’s mess.”The documentary will include personal footage from their lives together, as well as joyful moments. The minute-long trailer is directed by Liz Garbus and is set against ominous music. However, after the trailer’s release, some have expressed disdain towards the upcoming series. When asked why they wanted to share their story, Prince Harry spoke to People magazine to explain the high stakes involved in protecting his family.
He said: “No one sees what’s happening behind closed doors. I had to do everything I could to protect my family.”The pair claim that they would like to be the ones sharing the story instead of it coming from different sources.Netflix have described the show as a lens into the secret days of their early courtship and the challenges that led to them feeling forced to step back from their roles in the institution. In the trailer, an anguished Harry says: “It’s really hard to look back on it now and go ‘what on Earth happened?”The royal has claimed there’s a ‘hierarchy of the family’ as well as the ‘leaking but also planting of stories’.”It’s a dirty game” he added. The trailer ends with Harry ominously claiming: “No one knows the full truth. We know the full truth.”The docuseries will be released in two parts this month, with volume one (episodes 1 to 3) dropping tomorrow, December 8, and Volume 2 on December 15 (episodes 4 to 6).
