The Queen has a sweet way of showing her great-grandchildren Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis how much she loves them, according to Kate Middleton. The Queen might be one of the busiest women in the world, but she still takes time to make her great-grandchildren feel special. The Queen has a total of 11 great-grandchildren (12th on the way) from the eldest being Savannah Phillip, 10, to the youngest, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.
And she has a sweet way of ‘showing her love’ when she sees them. On occasions when the children stay over at their grandma’s, whether that’s at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, Balmoral Castle or Sandringham House, the Queen is said to always leave them “special treats” in their rooms.
This is according to Kate Middleton, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis’ mum, who revealed the little slice of information during an interview with ITV. Speaking on ITV documentary ‘Our Queen at 90’ the Duchess of Cambridge said: “[The Queen] always leaves a little gift or something in their room when we go and stay, and that just shows her love for her family.”
Kate went on to discuss how the Queen is particularly enamoured with Princess Charlotte, six. She explained: “The Queen was really thrilled that it was a little girl. “I think as soon as we came back here to Kensington she was one of our first visitors here. “I think she’s very fond of Charlotte. She’s always watching what she’s up to.” However, the Queen isn’t the only member of the royal family who takes gift-giving very seriously, especially at Christmas.
In previous years, Meghan Markle impressed Her Majesty with a gift that would not only make her laugh but would delight her dogs too – a singing hamster. This led the monarch to burst out laughing, remarking: “It can keep my dogs company.” Former royal butler Paul Burrell told the Mirror: “She’d spend hours looking for jokey things for their stockings. One year, Harry got fake dog poo.” And, having passed on her naughty sense of humour to Harry, he had a very cheeky plan to hide it somewhere for his nan to find.
