Prince William and Kate Middleton have been together forever, but they actually started out as just friends. And apparently, Kate was Wills’ wingwoman when they went out to parties.
Due to being a casual royal/heir to the throne, William obviously got a lot of attention back in his ’20s, and apparently a lot of people would hit on him when he went out—which made him “uncomfortable.” The Mirror dusted up a quote from William and Kate’s friend Laura Warshauer, who spoke about the couple to author Katie Nicholl for her book Kate:
the Future Queen and said, “Will was getting really hit on by this girl at a party and it was getting quite uncomfortable because he couldn’t shake her off. He was being really polite, but this girl just didn’t get the hint. All of a sudden, Kate came up behind him and put her arms around him. He said, ‘Oh, sorry, but I’ve got a girlfriend,’ and he and Kate went off giggling.”
Apparently Wills mouthed, “Thanks so much” to Kate, and Laura notes, “She was the only girl in the room who could have done that. And that was just a month after we started university.” Obviously, Kate and William ended up dating and—after a brief breakup—William proposed during a vacation with friends and Kate said yes. Flash-forward to now and they’re married with three kids and gearing up to be King and Queen one day.
