KATE MIDDLETON, who is celebrating her 40th birthday tomorrow, became a mother in 2013 to Prince George. Now as a mother of three, the Duchess of Cambridge has perfected her ‘mum-style’ with her sophisticated wardrobe, but especially with her jewellery. Kate Middleton has had incredible jewellery moments throughout her 11 years as a working member of the Royal Family.
Prince William proposed to Kate with his late mother’s beautiful sapphire engagement ring in 2010. On Princess Diana’s former engagement ring, Lorna Haddon, head of diamonds and jewellery at Beaverbrooks said: “Of course Kate’s most iconic jewellery piece – her breath-taking engagement ring – holds a stunning 12-carat oval blue sapphire, surrounded by fourteen smaller solitaire diamonds.
“The sapphire and diamonds are set in a slim 18-carat white gold band. “They accentuate the central piece and draw t he eye into those incredible stones. “A family heirloom, Kate’s ring once belonged to Prince William’s mother, Princess Diana, and has incredible sentimental value to the Prince.
“William explained that by Kate wearing his mother’s engagement ring, he felt that Diana was with them on their wedding day.” However this ring was only the start of Kate’s incredible jewellery collection as a working royal. To celebrate the Duchess of Cambridge turning 40 this weekend, Lorna spoke to Express.co.uk about Kate’s most iconic jewellery moments throughout the years, and especially since becoming a mother.
From the University of St Andrew’s to Kensington Palace, the Duchess has brought a sophisticated and understated style to the Royal Family for over a decade. But now as a mother, Kate has provided royal fans with some really enviable jewellery choices.
Lorna said: “I think everyone remembers the photos from the hospital after Kate gave birth to the lovely Prince George.“A new generation of the Royal Family had arrived! “Kate’s signature style just shines through in their first photoshoot as a new family. “Her trademark pearl earrings are so classic and really convey her sophisticated motherly image.
“She’s worn these drop pearl earrings for so many special moments in her life, including following the birth of her daughter, Princess Charlotte. “Some of the most shared photos of Kate, William and their children came out of the 2019 Trooping the Colour ceremony.
“It’s such a sweet image of the family together and Kate looks radiant in a lovely lemon dress and fascinator. “She’s wearing another favourite piece of hers which we see popping up time and time again, a diamond-encrusted cross pendant reported to have been gifted to her as a child,” the expert noted.
Even with Kate’s jewellery choices during the first lockdown, Lorna added: “Even in the midst of a global pandemic, Kate has still found ways to wow us with her sophisticated style.”Princess Charlotte was born in 2015 and Prince Louis was born three years later in 2018.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge now have three children and live in Kensington Palace. However they also have a country home in Norfolk called Anmer Hall where Kate will be celebrating her 40th birthday tomorrow. The family also spent Christmas there in 2021 due to the Queen having a stripped-down Christmas at Windsor.
