MEGHAN Markle and Prince Harry hope to return to the UK as “part-time royals” under Prince Charles, a royal author has claimed. So you think Harry and Meghan deserve the right to change their minds and resume some royal duties? The Duke and Duchess of Sussex quit their royal duties two years ago and have since gone on to establish new careers as private citizens with projects including philanthropic work and signing deals with Netflix and Spotify. Harry, 37, and Meghan, 40, moved to the US where they live in California with their two children – Archie and Lilibet – to pursue their own path.

Since departing, Harry has only returned to the UK on two occasions – both times he visited alone. Now, a royal author has claimed that the couple may wish to make a return to royal life when Prince Charles ascends the throne. Tom Quinn told the To Di For Daily podcast that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex may be interested in a royal comeback in the future.

He said: “One interesting thing an insider told me… is that both Meghan and Harry believe that when the elder royals die – in other words, Elizabeth – they may well be able when Charles is King, be able to come back and be the part-time royals that they really wanted to be. “So that they would be six months [as] working royals and six months in the States or wherever doing their own thing.

“That was something that Queen Elizabeth absolutely said couldn’t happen, but I think Meghan and Harry are hoping that Charles, Harry’s father after all, will be more of a moderniser and will say to them, ‘okay, if you want to be part-time royals, that’s fine’.

“I don’t think Harry and Meghan really want to spend their whole time in the States and not be part of the Royal Family, they just don’t want to do it all the time.” Tom claimed that despite fears surrounding Harry’s upcoming memoir, due to be published in late 2022, the Prince has never held any intention of damaging the institution.

Instead, the royal author claims that Harry wants to find his “role” within the Firm. He said: “I don’t think Harry does want to destroy the Royal Family. I think he just really does want to find a role. “He doesn’t really have a role in the Royal Family because he’s the spare rather than the heir, but there’s still lots of hospitals to open, meetings to go to, charities to support. “He could have had that limited role, but in California what can he do?

“So I think really rather than damage the Royal Family I think he’s just madly in love with Meghan and wants to make her happy.” Prince Harry last returned to the UK from Los Angeles in July 2021 for the unveiling of the Diana, Princess of Wales memorial statue. During his visit, he also met with seriously ill children and young people at a WellChild garden party at Kew Gardens.
He also visited in April 2021 for Prince Philip’s funeral where he was seen chatting to his brother William after the ceremony. Since their departure in 2020 as working royals, the Sussexes have launched the Archewell foundation, a not-for-profit organisation.

The charity aims to “unleash the power of compassion to drive systemic cultural change” through non-profit work. They have also secured a deal with Netflix to produce documentaries, docu-series, feature films, scripted shows as well as children’s programming. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex said their new endeavour would be focused on “creating content that informs but also gives hope”. Meghan and Harry’s daughter Lilibet, nine months, is yet to visit the UK.
