Cressida Bonas ‘broke Harry’s heart’ after being ‘spooked’ by Kate Middleton

CRESSIDA BONAS dumped Prince Harry after being “spooked” by Kate Middleton’s appearance during a royal tour, sparking the realisation that royal life was not for her, a royal author claimed. Cressida Bonas, Prince Harry’s former girlfriend, was “completely spooked” after watching Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge during a royal tour. The Duchess’ example is said to have made her decide she could never be a royal. This was according to royal author Katie Nicholls’ 2017 biography, ‘Harry: Life, Loss and Love’. She delved deep into the Duke’s relationship with the actress.

Ms Nicholl wrote: “Cressida had been ‘completely spooked’ while watching TV coverage of William, Kate and George touring New Zealand and Australia that spring.” A friend told the author: “She (Cressida) was sitting at home watching Kate on the royal tour of Australia, and it was a wake-up call. “There was no way she wanted that sort of attention and she told Harry so.”

 

The friend also revealed: “Harry didn’t want things to end. “He was in love with her and he tried to convince her they could make it work, but Cressida’s mind was made up. “Harry suffered a real blow when she said ‘I can’t do this.’ “I think she really broke his heart.”

Cressida eventually decided to end their two-year relationship which lasted from 2012 to 2014. Ms Nicholl added: “Twice [Harry] had been left heartbroken because the women he had fallen in love with didn’t want to share the life he had been born into.” This was a reference to his former sweetheart, Chelsy Davy, who had also “made up her mind once and for all” that she could not be a royal after witnessing Kate’s struggles, according to a book.

 

Also writing about Chelsy, Ms Nicholl said: “Being part of the royal wedding had made Chelsy’s mind up once and for all. “The life of a royal bride was not for her and she told Harry she could never make the sacrifices Kate had made.” Chelsy spoke to the Daily Mail in 2016 about her struggles with the attention she and Harry attracted in public. Chelsy said: “It was so full-on: crazy and scary and uncomfortable. “I found it very difficult when it was bad. I couldn’t cope. “I was trying to be a normal kid and it was horrible.”
