CAMILLA, the Duchess of Cornwall, will become the “Queen” once Prince Charles takes the throne to avoid “humiliation” for him, a royal biographer has claimed. Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, is set to receive the title “Queen” instead of “Princess Consort” to avoid embarrassment for Prince Charles. Royal Biographer Penny Junor claimed that Prince Charles is hugely “proud and grateful” to Camilla for sacrificing her needs to be by his side.
The Queen indirectly accepted Camilla as the Queen when she awarded her with the highest honour, the Order of the Garter this new year. The Duchess of Cornwall is one of the most “valuable” members of the Royal Family who won hearts with her hard work and loyalty towards the Monarchy, said Ms Junor.
Royal Biographer Penny Junor told Podcast Royal: “I have a suspicion that she will be called Queen because I think Charles would find it very humiliating to call her anything else. “He is hugely proud of her, hugely grateful to her, for all that she has sacrificed to be with him. “As I think, though Clarence House has always protested and said, ‘No, No she will be Princess Consort’.
“I think actually come the day she will be the Queen, and I think that we saw the Queen herself condoning that in an unspoken way, just a couple of weeks ago when she made her member of the Garter that was the highest level of honour that she could have bestowed on Camilla.
“And I think it was an indication, a gratitude for her hard work, for her discretion, for her loyalty, and I think recognising that she is a very very valuable member of the family.” Her Majesty bestowed Camilla with the most “honourable” title where she was made the Royal Lady of the Most Noble Order of the Garter. It is the oldest and senior title of the Orders of Chivalry.
The Royal historian and author Hugo Vickers expressed his views on the same to the MailOnline: “It comes at the beginning of what will be the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee year, binding together the inner circle of the Royal Family after 12 months of turbulence, controversy and deep personal loss.
“But, more than that, it paves the way for the Duchess to become not only Queen by right when Prince Charles succeeds to the throne but Queen by name. “That is surely what will now happen.”
The Royal editor Robert Jobson already saw it coming, stated in his book Charles at 70: Thoughts, Hopes And Dreams, it read: “The critical word in this statement, of course, was ‘intended’. What Clarence House was doing was buying time — time for a hostile public to warm to Camilla.
Prince Charles, however, has always intended her to become his Queen Consort. According to an inside source, he’d already decided that before their wedding.” Camilla’s new title signifies the Queen’s recognition for her contribution and service towards the Monarchy. The Royal author and biographer Sally Bedell Smith told CBC News: ”The Garter is a special and well-considered gift from the Queen.
“She has also been discreet and loyal, two traits prized by the Queen.” The appointment of Royal Knights and Ladies of the Order of the Garter is a gift independently monitored by the Queen that recognises those who have served the Sovereign.
Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge was awarded the title, Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victoria Order as an anniversary present by the Queen in 2019.
